The Sardar Patel National Museum is located in the Moti Shahi Mahal in Shahibaug. It was constructed for Shah Jahan between 1618 and 1622. The British cantonment later used the building for their senior officials. The great Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore found his inspiration for story "The Hungry Stones" while staying in building in 1878. After independence, the palace served as official residence of Governor of Gujarat - Raj Bhavan from 1960 to 1978. In 1978, it was transformed to national memorial dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The museum was enhanced to take it to international standards, more interactive exhibits were included and was inaugurated again on 29th October 2013 by Dr. Manmohan Singh (Hon. Prime Minister of India), H.E. Dr. Kamala Beniwal (Governor of Gujarat) and Shri Narendra Modi (Hon. Chief Minister of Gujarat). The museum showcases artefacts and belongings of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel to give glimpse in his life. The multimedia halls sheds light on Sardar's life through interactive exhibits.

The main attraction is 3D light, sound and laser show which shows journey of our country through Vedic period, Mughal Era, British domination to free India.
