This banyan tree is one of the top five largest trees in India. It is located at Kantharpura village, near Dehgam, and some 30 km from Gandhinagar.

It’s known as Mahakali Vad. It’s so large, that when we get under its thick dense canopy, it gives us a feeling of standing in a jungle. It is not possible to see the entire profile of the tree in one glance without getting half a kilometer away.

Nobody knows about its origins, or even how old it is. People also take challenges to figure out its oldest trunk among 100s of them. Some of them take a challenge to also count just how many trunks the tree is standing on. The tree is ecology in itself as being home to 100s of langoor monkeys, 1000s of birds, and many more species of insects.It’s easily accessible by public transport from Gandhinagar, Dehgam, and Ahmedabad. It can be a great place to bring the family to be with this great natural marvel.
