The river banks which had been neglected for generations got transformed. The riverfront created two dual carriageways on both sides of the river, and eased a great deal of traffic on other roads plus reduced the transit time between the city’s north and south ends. They freed up enough space on both sides to provide a great space for cycling or other fun rides such as scooters and Segway. It has also provided an opportunity for boating on speedboats, as well as for leisure cruising. On the river’s water which is cleaned with cleaning machines regularly.

The Sabarmati riverfront has provided the city dwellers some beautiful riverfront gardens which are disabled friendly. The artificial river islands have become colonies for the migrating birds in winter. It has also become a favored location for sports events, exhibitions, trade shows, and religious congregations. The Sabarmati Riverfront Ahmedabad is in true sense a family destination all year round for a beautiful evening out, or for walking, jogging, cycling, or just for sitting quietly and meditate looking at its clean calm water.

A development spanning over 10 Km on both sides of the river it has added a great value filled with beauty to the city and provided a good reason for the city’s skyline to be beautified.

The authorities do deserve a standing ovation for creating such a marvel in the middle of a metro city, and for bringing the river back to life.
